Generation Peace “THE CONFERENCE” Rocks

The Waging Peace in the Philippines (WPP) Conference series now has a new baby… the Generation Peace “The Conference”. It has been clear in the annual WPPs that the YOUNG BLOOD must have its take on the peace process. Last 3 December 2006, more than 60 newbie peace advocates gathered to talk peace. More than 20 youth organizations catering to peace and human rights are represented in discussing the present (and the future of) peacemaking in the Philippines.

A panel of HIGHBLOODS– composed of Cong. Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel, Ed Garcia of International Alert, Cerrie Joame of Balay Rehabilitation Center and Gary Granada–heated up the Room 4 of ISO for some good ole’ peace makin’ pep talk. Of course, the young bloods retailated with sweet presentations from the fab 5 workshops on Religion and Culture, Peacetalks, Child Soldiers, Arms control and Human Rights and Peace Education.

To top the event, Rock Ed rocked the Gen Peace boat with a kick-ass foodtrip/boozefest/socials/concert featuring none other than Dicta License, Up Dharma Down, Kala, Blazing Bulalakaws, and many more. We were all “rock-educated” free-verse style when Ed Garcia took the floor with Armi (Up Dharma Down) and Putchoy (Dicta License) for a spontaneous peace message with Blues music undertones. The youth are now ready to take on bigger challenges in the name of PEACE!
